The Institute for the Science of Origins will host an online installment of its Life, the Universe and Hot Dogs series today (July 16) at 7:30 p.m. Amanda Lund of the Argonne National Lab will present on “A Brief History of the Past Tense” and Harsh Mathur, professor of physics, will present “The Entropy of Language.”
They will discuss the application of methods of statistical physics and computing to problems of linguistics such as the evolution of irregular verbs, distinguishing Hemingway from his imitators, and the decipherment of the Indus script.
Events are usually hosted by Happy Dog on Gordon Square, but this installment will be offered via Zoom.
