The Leonard Gelfand STEM Center will offer Shipwreck Camp 2015 in July to give local students ages 12-15 the opportunity to participate in a virtual expedition to find shipwrecks in Lake Erie. The camp will run weekdays July 13-24 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Case Western Reserve University and other sites, such as the Cleveland Lakefront State Park.
Inspired by the research and exploration of Robert Ballard, who found the Titanic wreckage, Shipwreck Camp will engage campers in field science and exploration.
Campers will:
- Read novels related to exploration,
- Meet local experts,
- Build a remotely operated vehicle for underwater exploration,
- Use the tools of a scientist and conduct field research,
- Immerse themselves in an introduction to SCUBA and
- Virtually find a Lake Erie shipwreck.
The fee to participate is $525.
