Lecturer to discuss “The Assault on Collective Bargaining Rights in the Public Sector”

The topic of this year’s Rush McKnight Labor Law Lecture will be “The Assault on Collective Bargaining Rights in the Public Sector.” Joseph E. Slater, the Eugene N. Balk Professor of Law and Values at University of Toledo College of Law, will lead the talk March 28 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Moot Courtroom (A59).

During the talk, presented by the Center for the Interdisciplinary Study of Conflict and Dispute Resolution, Slater will argue that the assault on public sector collective bargaining rights is a partisan attempt to weaken a key supporter of the Democratic Party, and that it does not address budget deficits. Rather, it takes away a right considered fundamental in much of the industrialized world, that helps sustain a vital middle class and ensure skilled people will find public service an attractive career option, he will argue.
