Learning to prepare a good presentation can help a person sharpen his/her ideas, be more concise in messaging and improve his/her awareness of the power of language to persuade. The ability to make a good presentation is a valuable skill for any student or academic, both in terms of teaching and giving conference talks.
For the June 21 UCITE session, Sarah de Swart will discuss some of the central elements that go into making good professional presentations. The session will cover important points such as voice and body language and identify the most common issues for faculty and share strategies for success.
De Swart, who has advised faculty members for more than 10 years on how to improve their presentations, will draw upon her experience as a professional actress to illustrate how some of the skills used in improvisational theater can be adapted by professors for their own use.
The discussion will be held June 21, noon to 1 p.m., in the Herrick Room on the ground floor of the Allen Memorial Medical Library building.
