Kelvin Smith Library will host two webinars in April for the Alliance for Networking Visual Culture (University of Southern California) on the born-digital, open source, media-rich scholarly publishing platform, Scalar. This free publishing platform is designed to make it easy for authors to write long-form, born-digital scholarship online. Scalar enables users to assemble media from multiple sources and juxtapose them with their own writing in a variety of ways, with minimal technical expertise required.
“Introduction to Scalar” will cover basic features of the platform: a review of existing Scalar books and a hands-on introduction to paths, tags, annotations and importing media. The introductory webinar will be Thursday, April 9, from 1 to 3 p.m. in Kelvin Smith Library, Room 215.
“Intermediate Scalar” will delve into more advanced topics, including the effective use of visualizations, annotating with media and a primer on customizing appearances in Scalar. The “Intermediate Scalar” webinar will be Thursday, April 30, from 1 to 3 p.m. in Kelvin Smith Library, Room 215.
