How do people become experts? Often, there is a difference between how experts and those who are simply good at something acquire and use their skills.
Wayne D. Gray, a professor of cognitive science and computer science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, uses video games to study this difference.
The Cognitive Science Student Organization will host a discussion with Gray on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 6 p.m. in the Student Organization Center of Tinkham Veale University Center.
Gray is a researcher in the fields of computational cognitive modeling, cognitive neuroscience, interactive behavior, cognitive task analysis, cognitive workload and human error. He is a past chair of the Cognitive Science Society and the founding chair of the Human Performance Modeling technical group of Human Factors and Ergonomics Society. Gray is also a consulting editor for the Psychological Review and the executive editor for the Cognitive Science Society’s first new journal in 30 years, Topics in Cognitive Science.
The event is free and open to the entire campus community, but those who plan to attend should RSVP online. Refreshments from Chipotle will be provided.
