Learn about the portrayal of women in Jewish folklore Feb. 22

On Friday, Feb. 22, Haya Bar-Itzhak of the University of Haifa, Israel, will present a talk titled “Women in Times of Persecution in Jewish Folk Legends.”

Bar-Itzhak will discuss Eastern European legends about women in times of persecution, from the 17th century to the Holocaust, as well as folkloric creativity and strategy in legitimating women who entered the public sphere as active, brave heroines.

The event, sponsored by the Judaic Studies Program, the Siegal Life Long Learning Program, and the Women’s and Gender Studies Program, will take place Feb. 22 in Kelvin Smith Library’s Dampeer Room from 10 to 11 a.m. Attendance is free and all are welcome.
