AG Ken Paxton seeking records from second out-of-state transgender care provider
Houston Chronicle: Sharona Hoffman, the Edgar A. Hahn Professor of Law and co-director of the Law-Medicine Center, said a Texas politician’s requests seeking transgender medical records could be blocked by a federal law restricting the release of medical information, known as HIPAA. The law contains an exception for criminal investigations, but it’s unclear what law enforcement role he would be taking—or have the power to take—in this instance.
