ABC News: Sharona Hoffman, the Edgar A. Hahn Professor of Law and co-director of the Law-Medicine Center, said that the evolving legal environment around abortion care and privacy makes medical protections difficult to assess. “HIPAA doesn’t apply to employers; there’s no HIPAA privacy coverage,” Hoffman said. “There’s a HIPAA exception for law enforcement. Even healthcare providers have to respond to requests from law enforcement.”
