Jury recommends life sentences for Somali pirates
Associated Press: Michael Scharf, associate dean for Global Legal Studies, discussed a jury’s recommendation that Somali pirates be sentenced to life in prison in the killings of four Americans. “The U.S. sought the ultimate punishment … to send the strongest possible signal. That the jury returned a life sentence instead may blunt that somewhat,” Scharf said.
