Supreme Court rejects GOP call for unchecked power for state legislatures in US elections
USA Today: Jonathan Adler, the Johan Verheij Memorial Professor of Law, said the Supreme Court left the door open for additional litigation in its decision to preserve voting rights, while rejecting unchecked power for state legislatures in U.S. elections. “The Supreme Court reaffirmed that state courts do not have carte blanche to rewrite state election laws,” he said. “While the court did not give lots of guidance on the precise limits, the opinion serves as a warning to partisan activists inclined to use lawsuits as an effort to circumvent applicable election laws or rewrite districts.”
