Gerhart Distinguished Research Scholar at the School of Law, said while Columbus will offer free credit monitoring to those affected by a data leak, the credit monitoring agreement with Experian may not limit the right to sue. “It’s in everybody’s best interest that that service gets used because ultimately if it is used, it may mean that people are harmed less than they otherwise might be from this data breach,” Chaffee said.
