More Americans will see overtime pay under new labor rule
Spectrum News: Eric Chaffee, the Peter M. Gerhart Distinguished Research Scholar and associate director of the Center for Business Law, described a new rule for the Department of Labor that would raise the salary threshold to be exempt from overtime, which means millions of Americans could take home more money. “We’re in a period where we may be at the start of an economic slowdown,” said Chaffee. “You know, this is going to create some additional drag on the economy in the sense that businesses are going to have to pay workers more, which may be passed on to consumers.
