Art Modell law is ripe for legal challenges, but could help Cleveland keep the Browns
The Plain Dealer: Eric Chaffee, the Peter M. Gerhart Distinguished Research Scholar and associate director of the Center for Business Law, discussed a state law on the books—the so-called Art Modell law—that could keep the Browns in Cleveland. “This law has certainly not been fully litigated and definitely there is still room for a substantial amount of litigation here,” he said. “What this does is create leverage for potentially keeping the Browns in Cleveland the same way that it created leverage for keeping the Crew in Columbus.”
