Law’s Ayesha Bell Hardaway discusses the missing body camera footage of Patrick Lyoya’s shooting

Officer’s camera misses key moment of Patrick Lyoya’s death

ABC News: Ayesha Bell Hardaway, associate professor of law and co-director of the Social Justice Institute, discussed the newly released body camera footage of Patrick Lyoya’s fatal encounter with a Michigan police officer. The problem is, she said, that the video goes dark 42 seconds before the officer shoots the Black man in the head. “The absence of the video at the critical moment gives us no window to put us in that moment,” she said. “It now puts us right back where we were—relying on the word of an officer.”
