Bambi Chapin of the University of Maryland, Baltimore, will give the Department of Anthropology’s annual Kassen Lecture Thursday, Nov. 7, at 4:30 p.m. in Mather Memorial Building, Room 201.
Chapin will present “Childhood in Sri Lanka: A Perspective from 20 Years of Fieldwork.”
For over 20 years, Chapin has studied childhood, childrearing and mothering in Sri Lanka. Her work has been hailed for its insightful ethnographic analysis of cross-cultural socialization, child development and everyday life of Sri Lankan families. This research, which is ongoing, highlights the theoretical and methodological power of ethnographic fieldwork.
Light refreshments will be provided during the lecture.
