Justine Howe, associate professor in the Department of Religious Studies, has been awarded a National Endowment of the Humanities summer stipend award to support her book project, Muslim Students and the Making of American Islam, 1963-present.
The book will focus on the broad impact of the Muslim Students’ Association on shaping Muslim American communities and institutions on a national scale. This work will demonstrate how the American university has served as an indispensable site for the coalescence of American Muslim community and identity from the mid-20th century onward.
