Whether this marks your first or 50th autumn at Case Western Reserve University, you can always find something new to discover on campus and around Cleveland. Now, a newly redesigned visit site will help people find more of what the area has to offer.
Located at case.edu/visit, the website features both formal and fun details about the campus and the surrounding area. It includes an overview of the university, a list of our top 10 favorite things to do across Cleveland, and even dining recommendations via Yelp. Best of all, through a process called responsive design, the site is optimized to work as well on a desktop as it does on a tablet or smartphone—no need to go to different addresses or see entirely different content based on which device you use.
(Don’t have your smartphone on you to see what we mean? Simply resize your computer’s Internet browser to various smaller sizes and notice how the design changes to fit the screen size.)
While you’re on the site, click on “Maps + Directions.” Here, you’ll get a Google Map overview of the area. You can select your current location from the “Case Locations” drop-down menu and easily find your way to your end destination—all without leaving your browser. (For an up-close view from the streets, drag the yellow man from below the compass on to a spot on the map.) This section also features a more mobile-friendly campus map, directions to campus and a link to the Greater Cleveland RTA website, where you can learn more about traveling around the city via public transportation.
Now that you can find your way around campus, you need somewhere to go. Through the “Events” section, you can find upcoming university events as well more information on what’s happening in University Circle, the neighborhood we call home. If you have visitors coming to town, our “Accommodations” tab highlights places to stay.
In addition, you can find out the top-rated restaurants in the area, according to Yelp reviews, without leaving the site. Simply click “Dining,” type in the kind of cuisine you want, click “search” and—voila—you’ll find dining spots on or near campus along with their Yelp scores and reviews and their locations on the online map.
Just like the university, this site will continue to evolve and improve. We’ll best do that with your help. Offer your suggestions for improving the site at case.edu/visit/feedback-form.html.
