Juneteenth, also known as Juneteenth Independence Day or Freedom Day, is an American holiday that commemorates the June 19, 1865, announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas and the subsequent emancipation of enslaved African-Americans throughout the former Confederacy.
The African American Campus Community Resource Group will host an event in honor of the occasion Tuesday, June 19, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in Tinkham Veale University Center, Student Organization Room (Room 150).
Faculty, staff and students are invited to do a short performance, read a poem (some will be on hand) or provide items to display. Light refreshments will be served. Contact bvp@case.edu for more information.
