Join Public Affairs Discussion Group to examine disparities of women in politics

Karen BeckwithJoin Karen Beckwith, the Flora Stone Mather Professor of Political Science and director of curriculum review, as she examines the widening disparity of female representatives between the two major political parties.

Eighty percent of female senators and more than 75 percent of female representatives are Democrats. Why are there so many more Democratic than Republican women in Congress? Is it likely to persist, and what does that mean for gender representation in the future? Beckwith will weigh in on the topic during the Public Affairs Discussion Group Friday, Feb. 22, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the Kelvin Smith Library Dampeer Room.

Since 1989, faculty, emeriti, students and staff have gathered on Fridays for a brown-bag lunch and to discuss topics in public affairs.
