Jennifer Bailit explains how new program could reduce scheduled deliveries

Program cuts medically unnecessary scheduled births

Reuters: A quality improvement program could dramatically reduce the number of scheduled early baby deliveries. About 14 percent of U.S. deliveries last year were early electives, some out of convenience, said Jennifer Bailit, associate professor of reproductive biology. “I think part of this has to do with the fact that we’ve had such great strides in the last 20 years or so on making premature babies better that people have gotten a little cavalier about babies who are just a little bit early,” she said.
