Janetta M. Hammock, diversity program manager in the Office for Inclusion, Diversity and Equal Opportunity (OIDEO), was appointed as the office’s incoming director of diversity and strategic initiatives. Hammock assumed the director’s position Dec. 1.
Hammock, a certified diversity professional, has served in the OIDEO since coming to the university in 2010. She previously served as the office’s communication specialist before assuming the role of diversity program manager. As diversity manager, Hammock:
- Helped create Diversity 360, the campuswide diversity education program;
- Assisted in the development of the university’s Diversity Strategic Action Plans; and
- Enhanced the office’s signature programs, including the Power of Diversity Lecture Series, Train the Champion Program and annual welcoming and graduation receptions.
Additionally, Hammock was instrumental in establishing and bringing to campus the Sustained Dialogue program. She currently serves as co-chair of the initiative and was one of four individuals to receive a national Sustained Dialogue award in 2017 for her work with the campus program. Additionally, Hammock serves on the university’s Diversity Leadership Council.
In her new role as director, Hammock will oversee major diversity strategic initiatives, including diversity training programs and engagement initiatives. She also will assist departments and offices in developing and implementing their diversity strategic action plans and oversee the work of the OIDEO’s visiting committee. Hammock also will be involved in outreach efforts and work collaboratively with corporate relations on efforts to raise private funds for campus diversity and inclusion initiatives. In addition, she will continue to assist with office programming until her successor is named.
