iThenticate citation tool now available through [U]Tech

University Technology ([U]Tech) has added a new service, iThenticate, to help faculty, staff and students ensure they properly cite previously published work. iThenticate is designed for use in the context of writing theses and dissertations, preparing manuscripts for publication in academic/professional journals, and submitting proposals for research funding.

Students checking coursework submissions and instructors checking local submissions against other local submissions, will continue to use TurnItIn, which is integrated in the Canvas system.

[U]Tech’s Research Computing + Cyberinfrastructure team recommends all members of the university community use iThenticate to screen their manuscripts, proposals, theses and dissertations against its database of more than 40 million published articles, webpages and other scholarly content to check for possible failures to properly cite text from other sources.

[U]Tech chose iThenticate because federal funding agencies and journal editors use it to check submissions they receive.

For more information, training materials and to use iThenticate, visit the iThenticate page on the [U]Tech website. For assistance with any technology product or service at Case Western Reserve University, contact the [U]Tech Service Desk at help@case.edu, 216.368.4357 or help.case.edu.
