Items in Google Drive Trash to be saved for 60 days

Google Drive currently keeps trashed items for 30 days. Once a file or folder has been removed, it will remain in the Trash area until deleted or until those 30 days have passed.

This length of time will change to 60 days effective Wednesday, Oct. 3. Therefore, when a user removes a file from Google Drive, it can be found in, and restored from, the Trash folder for up to 60 days or until it is actively deleted.

This retention change does not affect trashed emails in Gmail, for which retention will remain at 30 days.

Google Drive’s Trash can be found at the bottom of the left-hand menu; it is listed as “Trash” alongside the familiar garbage can icon. The retention time changes and mechanics of Trash also apply to users who use Google Drive File Stream or Backup and Sync as a desktop app to access their online Google Drive.
