Members of the Case Western Reserve University community are invited to a City Club of Cleveland forum titled “It Takes a Village: Improving Black Infant and Maternal Health” Friday, Oct. 21, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 850 Euclid Ave.
This forum will take a look at the disproportionately high maternal and infant mortality rates for Black women and babies in Cleveland (which already has the worst infant mortality rate in the nation).
As part of its Local Heroes series and in recognition of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, the City Club of Cleveland will host this talk with Jazmin Long, president and CEO of Birthing Beautiful Communities.
Birthing Beautiful Communities aims to address the dismal maternal and infant mortality rates by tackling the social determinants of health that drive them. The organization offers childbirth/parenting education workshops, breastfeeding support, nutritional guidance, doula training, medical advocacy, and more.
The Center on Trauma and Adversity is a community partner with the City Club for this forum, as it aligns with the center’s research and studies.
