Inamori Center’s Shannon French weighs in on soldiers and conscientious objection

The moral responsibility of volunteer soldiers

Boston ReviewShannon French, director of the Inamori International Center for Ethics and Excellence, added to the debate of whether or not soldiers should have a right of selective conscientious objection if they believe a conflict to be unjust. She wrote: “Members of the military can, like all citizens, vote for the political representation they would prefer. But when the elections are over, they cannot mutiny against the policies of particular leaders and remain in military service.”
