Inamori Center for Ethics and Excellence’s Shannon French discusses conscientious objection in the military

The moral responsibility of volunteer soldiers

Boston Review: Shannon French, director of the Inamori Center for Ethics and Excellence, added to the debate of whether or not soldiers should have a right of selective conscientious objection if they believed a conflict to be unjust. She wrote, the decision to use military force is made by elected officials, who (in theory, at least) represent the will of the people. Members of the military can, like all citizens, vote for the political representation they would prefer.
