Wikipedia’s gender trouble is well-documented. In a 2011 survey, Wikimedia found that fewer than 13 percent of its contributors are women. The reasons for the disparity are hotly debated; however, the effect is not, organizers of Case Western Reserve’s Art + STEM + Feminism Edit-a-Thon say. Content is skewed, and articles on many notable women in history and art are absent from Wikipedia.
The university community is invited to do its part in improving these statistics at the Art + STEM + Feminism Edit-a-Thon Saturday, March 5, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Kelvin Smith Library’s Freedman Center.
Attendees should bring their laptops, so they can edit and contribute to the website.
Registration is available online.
