Important changes to CWRU password reset process

Recently, the Division of Information Technology Services (ITS) discovered suspicious attempts to compromise Case Western Reserve University user accounts via the password reset tool. The password reset tool allows members of the university community to reset their password in the event that they do not remember it.

In response, ITS engineers have removed the option to reset a CWRU password from off campus by answering a personal security question. At this time, members of the university community who need to reset their CWRU password from off campus will be directed to alternate methods, such as contacting the ITS Service Desk at 216.368.HELP (4357).

The ITS Information Security Office recommends that current members of the university community ensure they have an off-campus email address added to their account settings, and enter a non-guessable answer to their personal security question. For example, answers should not be dictionary words, and should not be facts others could research about you through social media.

To change the answer to your personal security question, visit its-services.case.edu/my-case-identity/security-question. To change the off-campus email address associated with your university account, visit its-services.case.edu/my-case-identity/external-email.

Any member of the university community with questions regarding this information should contact the ITS Service Desk at 216.368.HELP (4357) for assistance.
