The Social Justice Institute will host a talk with Bruce Western, author of Homeward: Life in the Year After Prison, Friday, Oct. 26, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Thwing Center ballroom.
Western is a professor of sociology and co-director of the Justice Lab at Columbia University. Homeward: Life in the Year After Prison, his most recent book, examines the tumultuous first year after release from prison.
Drawing from in-depth interviews with more than 100 individuals, Western describes the lives of the formerly incarcerated and demonstrates how poverty, racial inequality, and failures of social support trap many in a cycle of vulnerability, despite their best efforts to rejoin society.
Western will sign books following his presentation.
Multicultural arts organization A Cultural Exchange will have books available for purchase.
This event is free and open to the community. RSVP by emailing socialjustice@case.edu.
