The football team will host Waynesburg University for a homecoming game showdown Saturday, Oct. 10, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
The Spartan football team has won its homecoming game six of the past eight years, including a stretch of five-straight wins from 2007 through 2011.
The majority of the Spartans’ recent wins on homecoming have been one-sided, with five of the victories decided by at least two touchdowns.
One of the most memorable homecoming weekend showdowns was the team’s 63-14 win over Hiram College in 2009, marking the second-most points scored in a game in Case Western Reserve University history.
Another memorable homecoming matchup: In 2010, the Spartans defeated Allegheny College in a thrilling 24-23 win that was decided by a blocked kick in overtime by former Spartan Jacob Adams. The overtime victory extended the Spartans’ stretch of consecutive regular season wins to 35, a streak that eventually reached 38 games.
Before the game, the university community is invited to attend the parade watch party, which will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Linsalata Alumni Center, and the Spartan Tailgate, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Village at 115.
Other Spartan athletics teams will play homecoming weekend. Women’s and men’s soccer will play host to University Athletic Association rival Brandeis University on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively.
With both Brandeis teams currently appearing in the national rankings, and each of the CWRU squads receiving votes in the latest polls—including a No. 18 ranking for the men’s team—Sunday’s matches should prove to be an exciting way to cap off homecoming weekend at Case Western Reserve University.
