History’s John Grabowski gives insight on the development of Cleveland’s downtown

Have you ever wondered why these steps and wall are at the corner of Main Avenue and West 9th?

WEWS: John Grabowski, the Krieger Mueller Associate Professor of Applied History, discussed the history of a lighthouse in downtown Cleveland built in the 1800s. “And it was there for many, many years until it was replaced with more modern lighthouses,” said Grabowski. All that’s left of the site today are six steps that lead up to a parking lot on West 9th Street.
