Historian to present on 19th century French Guiana Feb. 24

spielerMiranda Spieler, assistant professor of history at the American University of Paris, will present a paper titled “Slave Flight, Slave Torture, and the State: Nineteenth-Century French Guiana” on Monday, Feb. 24, from 4 to 6 p.m. in Mather House, Room 100.

Spieler is a historian of France and the French overseas empire whose work explores the relationship between law and violence.

This event is hosted by the Department of History. Light refreshments will be provided.
