Eligible Participants: Adults 18-35 years old, no preexisting diseases
Participants will be asked to donate 1 unit of blood, then receive either of their blood back or normal saline 3 weeks later while breathing an experimental drug designed to improve outcomes of blood transfusion.
There will be 4 study visits:
- Initial health screen at the University Hospitals Main Campus
- Blood donation at the American Red Cross (3747 Euclid Ave, Cleveland
- Second health screen at the UH Main Campus
- Blood transfusion, drug administration, and an overnight stay at DCRU
The study includes having your blood drawn, having an IV inserted in a vein in your arm, and having a tube placed in. an artery in your wrist (an arterial line or arterial catheter).
