Despite the United States having an army of health and medical reporters, stories about health disparities went largely untold in the national media until 2020, when the issue burst into national consciousness.
The Clinical and Translational Science Collaborative of Northern Ohio will host a discussion titled “Health Equity: The Untold Stories” during its next Health Equity Webinar Series event Wednesday, Sept. 4, from 11 a.m. to noon.
In this discussion, health equity reporter Usha Lee McFarling of STAT will examine the factors that led to this blind spot in coverage, how and why it changed, and why the topic threatens to fade into the background yet again despite the very high stakes—and lives—involved. She also will discuss the approach she takes to covering health equity and a number of stories she has written that have garnered national attention and prompted change.
