Guides available to help faculty assist students in distress, manage disruptive behavior in the classroom

The Division of Student Affairs has updated two guides to help faculty and staff support students.

One guide, titled “A Faculty Guide to Encountering Students in Distress or Personal Crisis (PDF),” provides information to help faculty determine if a student is in crisis, reasons to consult with University Health and Counseling Services, and how to approach a student when trying to help.

The other guide, titled “A Faculty Guide to Managing Disruptive Behavior in the Classroom (PDF),” outlines preventive measures faculty can take to avoid disruptive behaviors, how to respond to such instances, what to do if it continues, their rights, and threatening or alarming behavior.
