Guest lecturer to discuss “When Cultures Collide: The Moral Challenge in Cultural Migration”

The Schubert Center for Child Studies, the Department of Anthropology and the Case Western Reserve University chapter of Phi Beta Kappa will present the talk “When Cultures Collide: The Moral Challenge in Cultural Migration.” Richard Shweder, the William Claude Reavis Distinguished Service Professor of Human Development at University of Chicago, will lead the lecture April 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Ford Auditorium.

This lecture examines a series of legal and moral questions about the proper response to norm conflict between mainstream populations and cultural minority groups in the United States, with special reference to a famous Supreme Court case concerning the prosecution of Amish families in Wisconsin for refusing to send their children to high school.

The lecture is free and open to the public, but registration is strongly encouraged. Register online.
