Graduate students receive accolades for posters at American Society for Metals conference

Zhe Ren and Aaron Washburn, graduate students in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, won first- and second-place poster awards at the 29th American Society for Metals (ASM)-Heat Treating Conference in Columbus in October.

Ren’s first-place poster was on “Surface Treatment of Co─Cr Alloys by Low-Temperature Nitrocarburization.”

Washburn’s second-place poster was on “Heat Treat Optimization of Inconel 718 Cladded H13 Forging Dies for Enhanced Die Life.”

Ren is a doctoral researcher in Professor Frank Ernst’s group, while Washburn is working on his master’s degree with Associate Research Professor David Schwam.

Ren and Washburn will receive awards in the amount of $1,000 and $700, respectively, from ASM International.
