Graduate Student Appreciation Week

Case Western Reserve University will celebrate Graduate Student Appreciation Week (GSAW) from Monday, April 1, through Saturday, April 6, with events for graduate students across campus. GSAW provides an opportunity for both celebration and support of the graduate student community. The following events and many more will be offered throughout the week for graduate students.

Graduate Student Trivia Night

Monday, April 1
6:30 to 9 p.m.
Tinkham Veale University Center, Ballroom C

Sporcle will host a general knowledge trivia night, which will be an opportunity to meet other graduate students. Food will be served and there will be a cash bar. Each of the top three teams will win Amazon gift cards for each team member, $40 each for first place, $30 each for second place and $20 each for third place.

Teams of four or five students can register through the Graduate Student Trivia Night CampusGroups event.

The event is co-sponsored by Tinkham Veale University Center, the School of Law, Weatherhead School of Management, School of Dental Medicine, the School of Medicine and Graduate Student Council.

Donuts and Coffee

Rolling Out the Red Carpet

The Office of Student Activities and Leadership will celebrate the accomplishments of CWRU graduate students with red carpet photo shoots and cookies from a local bakery.

De-Stress to Success

Kelvin Smith Library and the Office of Graduate Student Life will provide free 10-minute massages for graduate students to de-stress.

Graduate students also can create their own trail mix, enjoy lunch, get an introduction to various library services and visit a wellness table.

GSAW Ball

Graduate students are welcome to put on their finest clothing and masquerade masks to dine and dance at Graduate Students Council’s GSAW Ball.

Graduate students may buy two tickets. Tickets must be printed and presented at the event. A CWRU ID will be required for student admittance; a government ID will be required for guest admittance and to purchase alcoholic beverages. Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable. Tickets purchased today (March 29) will cost $35; tickets purchased after today will cost $40.

Flim screening: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

The CWRU Film Society invites graduate students to enjoy a free screening of this week’s film: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly. The film is rated R, directed by Sergio Leone and stars Clint Eastwood, Eli Wallach and Lee Van Cleef.

Three different men of three different tempers and tastes get involved in a long and full-of-adventure battle in order to find a fortune in gold. While the first man, who is an ex-bounty hunter and a forgiving person, knows the name of the cemetery that the gold is buried in, the second, who is a fast-tempered greedy man, knows the name on the grave. But the third person, a cruel cold-blooded murderer, knows none; so he has to reach the gold in his own way.

Film screening: Hunt for Wilderpeople

The Film Society will host another free screening for graduate students. The screening will be of Hunt for Wilderpeople, a film directed by Taika Waititi and starring Sam Neill, Julian Dennison and Rima Te Wiata.

Bella and Hector, two reclusive country folk, become foster parents to Ricky, a problem child from the city. After some adjustment, things go reasonably well. However, the death of Bella means Hector now has to look after Ricky, and they didn’t get along too well. Moreover, her death causes child services to decide to send Ricky back to the orphanage. Ricky refuses to go back and runs away, ultimately sparking a national manhunt for him and Hector.
