The Office for International Affairs will hold the next Global Talk series event, titled “Supporting International Students in the Classroom,” Thursday, Feb. 16, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Tomlinson Hall, Room 135.
Communication failures and moments when cultures clash in class and on campus may be the result of cultural differences and unspoken cultural expectations. Elizabeth Miller, assistant director for International Student Services and an advocate for international students, will discuss some common cultural characteristics and expectations international students have. Faculty and staff can gain new perspectives on teaching culturally diverse classes.
There will be a question and answer time following the presentation. Staff from both the University Center for Innovation in Teaching and Education and the Center for International Affairs will provide insights.
