About the program

This year, the Fusion IP Management and Commercialization program will expand its curriculum to coursework beginning in the fall semester and continuing in the spring. Partnering with the School of Medicine, the coursework will focus on promising biomedical innovations in the field of regenerative medicine.

The fall semester will focus on objective opportunity analysis. Students will be presented with fundamental skills necessary to evaluate an invention, analyze the unmet need underlying that invention and model the potential for IP protection, market analysis and proof of concept development. Additional skills covered will include prior art analysis, financial modeling, licensing and negotiation.

The focus of the spring semester will be planning and implementation. Student teams will work with the technological opportunities analyzed in the fall to develop go-to-market and financing strategies. This work will entail developing an understanding of resource and investment and requirements, startup company formation, private securities laws, valuation and FDA regulation. The course will culminate with a final pitch to venture capitalists and experts in the field.
