Friday’s Public Affairs Discussion Group to examine biblical rhetoric in the presidential election

In this Friday’s Public Affairs Discussion Group, Timothy K. Beal, the Florence Harkness Professor of Religion, will discuss the role played by the Bible in the current presidential race.

Beal has done a series of BibliFact blogs on huffingtonpost.com, in which he has commented on both the biblical basis for claims and the extent to which politicians are making them. Beal will share his observations on the links between religion, politics and society.

The discussion will take place on Friday, Oct. 19, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in Mather House 100. Note: This is a different location than the group’s normal meeting place in Kelvin Smith Library. Coffee, beverages and cookies are provided.

Since 1989, faculty, emeriti, students and staff have gathered on Fridays for a brown-bag lunch and to discuss topics in public affairs.
