Free student tickets available for March 19 Writers Center Stage Series event with author Timothy Egan

The 2018-19 William N. Skirball Writers Center Stage Series continues with an appearance by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, The New York Times columnist and best-selling author Timothy Egan. 

The event will take place Tuesday, March 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the Milton and Tamar Maltz Performing Arts Center at The Temple–Tifereth Israel.

About the speaker

Timothy Egan has written eight books, including:

  • The Worst Hard Time: The Untold Story of Those Who Survived the Great American Dust Bowl (2006), for which he won the National Book Award for Nonfiction;
  • Short Nights of the Shadow Catcher: The Epic Life and Immortal Photographs of Edward Curtis (2012), for which he won the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction; and
  • Best-seller The Big Burn: Teddy Roosevelt and the Fire That Saved America (2009).

His latest book is The Immortal Irishman: Thomas Francis Meagher and the Invention of Irish America.

A limited number of free student tickets will be available in person beginning March 4 at 9 a.m. Students can show their Case Western Reserve ID at the Tinkham Veale University Center’s first floor information desk to obtain a ticket to the event.

In addition, students can participate in a personal dialogue with the author Tuesday, March 19, from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Tinkham Veale University Center Gaming Room.

About the series

The 2018-19 William N. Skirball Writers Center Stage Series is presented by the Cuyahoga County Public Library Foundation and Case Western Reserve University. Funds raised by this series help support Cuyahoga County Public Library, the nation’s top-rated library system for eight consecutive years.

On the day of the event, free shuttle service is available to transport ticketed guests to the Maltz Performing Arts Center. Shuttles depart from the Tinkham Veale University Center Linsalata Entrance (Bellflower Road), and return shuttles leave from the Maltz Performing Arts Center at the conclusion of the lecture.
