Case Western Reserve University marking Veterans Day with free dental care for military veterans

The global coronavirus pandemic put a hold on Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine’s celebration of Veterans Day with free dental care for veterans and military personnel, but the school is bringing back the annual veteran-outreach effort on Thursday, Nov. 11, and Friday, Nov. 12.

The dental school will offer free dental exams, X-rays and cleaning for $25. Additionally, patients may receive a $100 voucher toward future dental services if they sign up for a comprehensive treatment plan. The dental service is exclusive and limited to new patients who are veterans and military personnel (with proof of service) only.

“It was difficult to put this special event on pause last year,” said Ali Syed, the admitting clinic director at the dental school. “This is our way of saying a special ‘thank you’ to our war heroes. We want to reach to the military personnel in our community and offer the care that they deserve, which is not only affordable but also the best dental care.”

The Veterans Day offers are by appointment only—on a first-come, first-served basis—with four time slots available: 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m. The number of appointments available is limited. Those interested are required to call 216.368.8730. This year, those attending need to be pre-screened as part of an abundance of COVID-19 precaution. Those confirmed for care are asked to call 216.368.3200 for a pre-screening appointment.

Patients will be treated by third- and fourth-year dental students and residents, with supervision from dental school faculty members. For subsequent care, clinic patients can expect discounted services of 30% to 50%, depending on the procedure, compared with standard dental rates.

Each year, the dental school’s students and residents treat more than 8,000 patients, including university students, employees and the general public at discounted prices.

The dental school clinic is at 9601 Chester Ave., Cleveland. To learn more, visit the dental school’s website.
