For its annual programming on men and gender event, the Flora Stone Mather Center for Women will bring in former NFL player Don McPherson for the discussion “You Throw Like a Girl.”
For more than 20 years, McPherson has used the power and appeal of sport to address complex social issues. For this event, he tackles the language and culture surrounding sports and the message that is often implicitly enforced: that women are “less than” men. The presentation will focus on nurturing positive language and understanding of masculine identity.
The discussion will be held Nov. 15, 6-9 p.m., at the 1914 Lounge in Thwing Center; dinner will be provided by Jimmy John’s.
The event is presented in partnership with John Carroll University.
