Bechara Choucair, former commissioner of the Chicago Department of Public Health, will be on campus to present “Innovations in Public Health Practice: Chicago’s Experience” as part of the Health Policy Lecture Series. Choucair’s talk will be held Friday, Jan. 23, at noon in the Iris S. and Bert L. Wolstein Research Building, Room 1413.

In 2011, Choucair launched Health Chicago, the first comprehensive public health agenda for the City of Chicago. Since its launch, the department has reported historic lows in childhood obesity and smoking rates, and significant increases in overall life expectancy. Under Chocair’s leadership, the department became the first big city public health agency to be awarded national accreditation.
