Launch CWRU Weekend 2015 wrapped up Sunday, Sept. 6.
At the beginning of the event, 24 individuals pitched their ideas, with 16 teams forming to begin the 48-hour competition. More than 30 community members supported idea research and team project development, acting as mentors, advisers, and judges.
At the end of the competition period, 12 teams pitched their business ideas in front of judges. The results were:
- First place: VitalCheck
- Second place: CaseWare
- Third place: WES
VitalCheck aims to universally optimize health care by minimizing time spent on data collection and maximizing time spent on patient care. The team consisted of Trent Boyer, a master’s student in engineering and management; Boaz Heller, a statistics and classics major; and Zigang Chen, a finance major.
CaseWare is a wristband meant for elderly people in the care of younger family members. The wristband has GPS, emergency services and a skin contact detector. These features come together to ease the worries felt by the caregivers of Alzheimer’s patients. The CaseWare team consists of Phil Adikes, a finance major; Zigang Chen, a business management major; Aaron Grgurich, an electrical engineering major; Sanjana Krishnakumar, a biomedical engineering major; and Isabella White, a marketing major.
WES looks to wirelessly charge mobile devices through interfaces installed in commercial furniture, including restaurants and airports. The team consists of Roy Chan, a systems and control engineering major, and Carey Feng, a marketing and international business major.
