Find out how national security and modernist literature are linked at April 15 lecture

Greg Barnhisel

The 2016 Edward S. and Melinda Melton Sadar Lecture in Writing in the Disciplines will be held Friday, April 15, at 3 p.m. in Bellflower Hall, Room 102.

Greg Barnhisel, professor and chair of the Department of English at Duquesne University, will present “Norman Holmes Pearson: Rewriting America for a Cold War World.”

In his lecture, Barnhisel will discuss how Pearson’s work as a World War II spy is tied to the influence he had on American literary modernism.

What appear at first like three seemingly separate spheres of activity—modernist literature, American studies and national security—are, in the context of the early Cold War, closely linked.

A reception will follow the event.
