Fall convocation is the formal celebration that opens each new academic year at Case Western Reserve University. Held in late August during the first week of the fall semester, fall convocation features keynote remarks from the Elaine G. Hadden Distinguished Visiting Author, along with recognition of faculty receiving the highest honor—the title of Distinguished University Professor.

The 2020 speaker will be journalist and author Elaine Weiss. Her highly acclaimed narrative non-fiction book, The Woman’s Hour: The Great Fight to Win the Vote (Viking 2018), was chosen as Case Western Reserve University’s 2020 common reading book. Each year since 2002, the university’s common reading book has served as a basis for programs and discussions for first-year students.

Fall convocation 2020 will be held Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 4:45 p.m.

Given the current limitations on mass gatherings, guests are invited to join the program remotely. View the livestream.
