Local human rights organization IRTF will be holding a Fair Trade Sale on Wednesday, December 4 and Thursday, December 5 from 11:30 am-2:30 pm. The location of this event has been changed to Thwing Center. Fair Trade is a trade model that sets a series of standards to ensure fair wages and human dignity for producers, community investment, environmental sustainability, and other benefits, creating an alternative trade model to the free market system that currently dominates our world and further divides us into “haves” and “have nots.” Support fair trade by shopping for holiday gifts, coffee and chocolate, handicrafts, and other items produced in cooperatives in Central America, Colombia and elsewhere. On Wednesday, Christmas tree ornaments, vases and handsewn dolls created by the artisans of PODA, a women’s rights organization in Pakistan, will also be for sale. To learn more about PODA, visit https://www.poda.org.pk/.
IRTF envisions a world where people work for themselves and do not have to be dependent on the dominant economic model that perpetuates inequality and exploitation of people and the environment. Instead, self-determination, gender equality, transparency, and democratic organization are the norm.
